250mbps Mobile Broadband

Recommended Posts

Still waiting for a version of voip through a mobile. I thought cloud9 were going to have the money/balls to do it but they seemed to just fizzle out. I hear they are relaunching again in June so lets hope they have loads of cash to play with, 3 normal mobile networks doing basically the same things is just going to get boring.

Was playing with a new version of a HSDPA card the other day, a usb model and managed to get 3.8mbps upload on it, very nice indeed.

What was the download speed like and what network were you using? I use HSDPA (3 Mobile Broadband) - with the standard modem the best I get is abt 1-2mbps download and 56kbps upload. It's ok(ish), and great being mobile, but 250Mpbs mobile broadband would be something really nice to have.

Well what can IIIIII say?

We need to release the monopoly...I'm not saying that if we were to open the regulations (of which I do not know of, I don't know where to find them), but manx telecom is a failure when it comes to innovative ideas...for example their modo service, perhaps if it was 5 years ago, people WOULD have payed to download a track for their ringtone and payed to play a game on their phone, but they payed however many million for this service in 2008, a date which I (along with the majority, i think, of mobile users) can rip a cd and upload it to their phone. Along with downloading open source games. On a personal level, who uses games anyway?

Surely an innovative idea would to be that the whole island became a wireless network? You would need to be a subscriber to manx telecom and maybe perhaps a small fee for the login details of being part of the network. It would be a world first (so far as I know), and would probably cost less then their outdated modo service.

I think Singapore is doing this, and perhaps HK too. 250Mbps HSDPA does sound very nice. Then again actual speeds of 4Mbps with wired broadband probably seems very nice to a lot of people and more than could be hoped for from MT in the foreseable future.

Whats this monopoly word that people keep using? i used to think it was a service that knowone else can provide so they hike the prices but clearly it means something else... or you are full of shit and dont know what your talking about of course.

Oh i get it, nothing to do with the subject just wanted to moan.

I would be careful about the hype, like most wireless technologies - theoretical maximum speeds are often quoted or aggregate base station speeds etc not taking into account real-world scenarios. All that said - it looks a very promising technology and wireless certainly has its place. I would say - for large scale, high speed broadband - fibre is the way forward.
