Ronaldsway Airport - July Figures

July Passenger Numbers are down 3.25% compared with last year - a better return according to the Lady Manager than they had predicted for the month.

Airport Director Ann Reynolds said the overall numbers were slightly better than originally predicted. ‘We had expected the decrease to be a percent or so higher than the outturn, so I’d like to believe that there is evidence that the worst of the decline is over,’

I have noticed that she never says in advance what her forecast is - only in retrospect that things were better than she had anticipated! Always the most creditable form of forecasting...rear view mirror.

Mind you earlier this year she was predicting that there would be an upswing from May onwards. We should feel happy that on a moving 12 month basis we are now only 13.37% down.

I am reassured.

 Yes. I think I can feel a return on capital coming on...no, only a plane taking off.

I have just read on IOM Today that FlyBe are stopping their Belfast service from September to March. Just checked their website and it does look as if this is happening - though it does not show a restarting date. Another reassuring development. Nothing about it on the Airport website.

Perhaps a further runway extension - another 1000 feet at least - might help attract more of the big iron birds which bring so many shiny things to our poor land.

Next month it will a drop in figures -

Which is good news, because the loss of VLM/London Village route means more openings for other airlines.

Month after - lower figures, the loss of the VLM/London village route caused an expected drop in passenger figure, but the take up of those who would have used that service shows a slight drop, which is less than expected - which is good news.

Month after, an even lower figure, again good news, because that month people dont travel until December, when they take advantage of lower prices on onward flights due to no school holidays until the end of the month.

December figures are down, because many people choose to go by boat, coz its cheaper (there is a thought). This is good news because that means more people are choosing to travel off island, so the figure can only rise in the future.

Boat reports lower figures due to

a) the boat being shit

b)Ben broken

c) people choosing to stay at home to be able to afford petrol next month

Jan 2010- one person uses the airport, but FlyMaybe cancel the flight. More good news because that one person fills in a questionaire about how easy it is to use the carpark.

Feb 2010 - No one uses the airport

It closes

The extension is finished just in time for a a mansion to built on the site, which turns into a new estate of 1000 homes (semi, detached and mews)

End of Feb 2010 - public enquiry into the closure of the airport, planning consent for the new home/s, possible closure of the footpath, foward purchasing of US dollars to fund the Ramsey pier extension, Langness footpath (still unresolved)

Mar 2010 - coast footpath closed.

Apr 2010 - PROWD launch leagal action

May 2010 - Island declares its broke

Ann Reynolds returns to the Island as official Island spokeswoman in charge of sugaring everything thats shit.

The Directress would be wise to keep her opinions to herself and allow transport supremo Anderson to spin the story and look a complete arse. She should get on with what she is paid most handsomely by the tax payer to do. Hang on, what is she paid to do?

asitis - a gem but don't shout too loudly. Our numptees in the coucil chamber might take you seriously.

If you read down it looks from this thread as if Sligo Aiport are building something almost identical to the extension at Ronaldsway for about €10-12 million (£8.5 to £10 million). Of course as the illustrious editor of our local newspapers says, Sligo is only a small regional airport taking small planes like the ones Aer Arrann fly to Dublin from there...oops aren't those the same they fly to here from Dublin too? Such cheap solutions clearly not suitable for Isle Of Man Global Airport.

Interestingly Sligo seems to be able to handle these 74 seater planes on a runway significantly shorter than Ronaldsway was pre-£46 milion extensions...sniff...sniff...sniff...oh no it isn't a rotten smell, just aviation fuel. icon8.gif
