I managed to look round the prison in Victoria Road and was a little shocked to see how old and decrepid the place is. The confined dimly lit areas with pokey cells that had no water or toilet seemed unreal. The old prison Governor Mr Hawkes, showed us around the wings of the jail and it must have been pretty 'crap' to work in and also 'crap' for the prisoners too.

I know people have said give them bread and water and throw away the key, but I would imagine that prisoners when they leave, would be a little peeved with society. I can now see why they have a new prison and one hopes that prisoners learn from the educational courses provided, learn a trade and learn how NOT to offend again.
