Police said a 24-year-old was attacked in a disturbance with three other men in the area of the Castlemona Shops on Central Promenade in the early hours.

In 2001/2002, 28 percent of all recorded crime in the Isle of Man occurred on the Douglas Promenade in an area representing only 3 percent of the island’s geographic area. The Promenade, a center of the nighttime and weekend economy in the Isle of Man, accounted for:

- 41 percent of the Isle’s reported assaults,

- 46 percent of all recorded public order offences, and

- 19 percent of all criminal damage reports.

Peak Times - 00.00hrs to 03.00hrs on Saturday & Sunday, particularly weekend of month after payday.

Locations: Hotspots outside nightclubs, taxi ranks, fast food outlets.

The Project Centurion partnership grew out of this ... resulting in a 33 percent reduction in targeted crimes.

Some interesting data on concentration of crimes here:

Project Centurion focussed on better transport - with great results in 33% reduction - but perhaps more is needed to achieve even bigger reduction in targeted crimes.

Rough guess is even with better transport, the Promenade accounts for 25% of all IoM's reported assaults, 30% of all recorded public order offences, and 12.5% of all criminal damage reports.

Before you know it there will be an online petition to protect the rights of people who want to start fights on the prom when they can't handle their drinks. Doesn't matter if it's illegal of course, just stick it on some balloons....
