TerryMcCann
I believe the official reason is to improve access to the hospital. I suspect the actual reason is because they haven't done any roundabouts in ages and are itching to do another one
Billy One Mate
That house was only built about five years ago after demolishing the original one which I think was sold for about £80,
TREVOR
Give me roundabouts any day over traffic light. Traffic keeps moving, just need to watch out for the "flat cappers" Just hope they make up their minds from the word go as to with lanes to get in. Up a B&Q they seems to have change the markings again!
slinkydevil
Windy Corner - 2 months Sweepstake on how long these roundabouts will take? If it's 2 months to change a corner then what are they gonna take for 2 roundabouts at 2 junctions with buildings, cemetry, bridge over the river kwai, and keep that 'jubilee' oak in place? Northline
Has anyone ever lived in that house since it was rebuilt?. . . I drive by it everyday . . . the lights may be on - but there's nobody home . . (cue theme from twilight zone)
modey
if they are going to be building more roundabouts then at least teach people how to use them. Over here people think it's a staring competion at the qb.
issues99
roundabouts are better than traffic lights but only when people know how to use them! when the rush hour traffic is backed up past braddan brigde from the Q.B , people coming from douglas will have no hope of turning up to the hospital due to doughnuts who block roundabouts. oh and these doughnuts also sit there looking at each other at roundabouts so i reckonmend at lest 2 hours to get through that lot in the morning. 3 roundabouts to get utterly annoyed at oh i cant wait!! Tempus Fugit
I think they originally said it would be 8 months to do the two roundabouts, and who wants to buy a house in the middle of a roundabout ? - maybe it should be turned into offices for the DoT or the ambulance service (instead of the QB pub !) Loolie
There's a "magic roundabout" in Hemel Hempstead too. I've encountered it a couple of times and it's fookin' scary! http://www.galactic-guide.com/articles/2R64.html
mbx
The thinking behind the extra roundabouts is to finish off a douglas "outer ring road". This will enable wagons and heavy traffic to get to the incinerator and southwards, from the north of the island, without going through town. The route is ,roughly; Turn off mountain road at Hillberry, Continue down Johnny Watterson's Lane, over new roundabout at Ballanard road. Through Tromode and up to roundabout, and left to Braddan Bridge. Right at new roundabout at Jubilee Oak, then up left at second new roundabout by Braddan Church. Continue up hill, bearing right towards Kirby Garden Centre, continuing up round more roundabouts through to Ballcottier Business park. Hang a left on to Cooil road, and your nearly there. BTW, I don't work for the DOT, but an old school friend does, and he explained it to me about 12 months ago.
Gladys
It'll be interesting to see how a roundabout is incorporated into that junction (and one is sorely needed) without affecting the TT course.
