The move by Heron and Brearley to no longer pay bands to play at the Trafalgar Hotel, Douglas, has caused shock and anger within parts of the music community.

Earle Law, a figurehead of the Manx music scene who works at the pub, said he has been 'inundated' with bands expressing their shock and horror at the loss of another venue.

He said many had offered to play for free, but Earle added the only way he would allow this would be if there was a nominal donation on the night of the gig. He and partner Kath Collins – the licensee –

will not charge on the door because of the impact on regular customers.

Heron and Brearley haven't a clue really have they? I half expected to see them also re-generating the Traf into a Miami Vice theme pub in the same fell swoop.

Pity its really hard to boycott them here.

Miami Vice, that would be amazing! Everyone in white suits with pink salmon shirts and crocodile skin shoes or loafers! Man, that would be better than some shit band any day. Unless they were the Bee-Gees! Now thats a real Manx band :D

Heron & Brearley should be thinking about sponsoring the bands at the Traf. and other local musicians etc., not pulling the plug on things like this.

It would possibly raise H&B's profile, give valuable support to the bands and provide regular entertainment in their venue's. With the banning of smoking in pubs possibly on the cards in the next few years and a change in social habits anyway (ie. alot of people giving up drinking for a healthier lifestyle ) you think they'd be doing all they could to attract people to their venues.

:o
