I'm flying down to The Smoke next week for the princely sum of £212 so I'll get to the airport shop early for some free entertainment from our chum the Assistant of the Year. Reminds me of a dear old family friend who was getting on a bit and, in the delightful way people do, was going a bit peculiar in her twilight years. A couple of years before and - knowing that she used to enthusiastically tend her window boxes - we thought as a family we'd buy her a modest card and a window box gardening tool set. Four quaint little spades, hoes, rakes, that sort of thing - could equally be kept as an ornament as used practically. Anyway, a year or so passed and we received an unusual but nonetheless heartfelt gift one Christmas:- Carefully wrapped were two of the four tools we'd bought her the previous Christmas, a medium sized terracotta plant pot and a blown lightbulb.
