manxchatterbox
From the FT today:- Some British farmers have urged a ban on French poultry products in the same way that France banned imports of British beef in defiance of the European Union rules for years after the BSE crisis. John Riddell, a farmer in the south-west of England, called for a ban and said: “Our wholesale poultry market is being flooded by French products.” and "The US on Tuesday banned the import of poultry products from the area of France where bird flu had been found" ..and you think the Manx Government knows better than 20 other governments?? sarahc
It's all about protecting their own financial interests though. Not that there's anything wrong with that!
LoneWolf
..and you think the Manx Government knows better than 20 other governments?? Maybe Ive missed something. Which governments ? Nitro
No, because you can't catch it from eating poultry. Ban live imports maybe. Otherwise that's just capitalising on a pandemic. The cat in Germany died from bird flu, from eating the poultry that had caught bird flu.
manxchatterbox
20 governments including the US and Japan have banned French poultry so why not the IOM Govt?? its weak spineless and chicken livered and doesn't know how to stand up for itself...... Why is we always have to bend over backwards to accommodate EU legilslation....
Gladys
Back to my original question, how do we effectively stop French poultry products coming in and what purpose will it serve?
Nitro
We can't!, There is no really effective way, Birds fly everywhere and come to the UK and then go off some where else, Stopping French poultry products only solves a small part, What we need is a vaccine, Why is it taking them so long to make one? manxchatterbox
PARIS, March 1 (Reuters) - The number of countries outside the European Union which have banned or restricted French poultry imports on bird flu fears has risen to 43, French Trade Minister Christine Lagarde said on Wednesday. This sharp rise over a matter of days is worrying Paris which is now asking governments to limit the bans to the region of France infected by the deadly strain of bird flu. The IOM isn't in the EU so why is IOM Government waiting....
