Female motorists are in the dark over symbols on their dashboard

More and more drivers are confused about the symbols on their car dashboard, according to new research published today. And women are particularly perplexed by the array of lights and warning signs in front of their steering wheels, the AA Personal Loans survey showed.

The research found:

39% of women and 28% of men could not correctly identify the main beam headlight warning lamp, suggesting they unwittingly dazzled oncoming traffic;

69% of women, but only 5% of men, failed to identify the front windscreen washer and wipe symbol;

Just 38% of women, compared with 65% of men, were able to properly identify the warning lamp indicating high coolant temperature;

12% of women and 7% of men had no idea what the handbrake warning light was;

68% of women and 44% of men could not correctly identify the rear fog light symbol, with 19% of women having no idea what it meant;

Rather worrying, that - so time for some lessons:

1. Beginners Questions:

Correctly identify the meaning of these thingies:

2. Advanced Questions:

Correctly identify the meaning of all warning lights in the picture:

3. Final Exam:

Find the indicator:

One evening whilst driving along with my small son in the car he kept saying "There's the jelly fish" and "Jelly fish gone". I couldn't understand what he was on about until I realised he was looking at the full beam symbol on the dashboard that kept either coming on or going off depending on the full beam :P

"The male fatal crash involvement rate per 100,000 population was 3 times as high as for female drivers in 1994. Female drivers continue to exhibit safer driving statistics than male drivers. Males accounted for 67 percent of total fatalities, 68 percent of all pedestrian fatalities, and 86 percent of all pedalcyclist fatalities in 1994. 22 percent of male drivers involved in fatal crashes were intoxicated compared to 11 percent of female drivers. 37 percent of female drivers involved in fatal crashes were unrestrained at the time of the crash compared to 47 percent for male drivers involved in fatal crashes."

Ahh..the old "Women are safer drivers" argument - been waiting for that :)

I'll be glad to google for the survey which mentioned that, statistically, fewer women are involved in collisions than men, simply because they don't drive as many miles per year as most men do (on average). So if the male population drives (on average) something like 3 times as many miles per year, then - with some statistical trickery - you'll find out that men are the better drivers, as we have fewer crashes per miles driven...

See, simple! And never trust any statistic you haven't faked yourself !

of course amadues :) whatever you say.

on average men do drive more than women but not so much that it changes the whole statistics. women are slower and safer drivers, their insurance reflects this. get used to it, no amount of defensive surveys hurriedly thrown together by men to defend their driving will wash :)

ban male drivers and make the roads a safer place!

Nice one lonan lol

Women know your place, when you are driving all you are thinking about is what you are going to be buying in the shops.

You are meant to be thinking about driving.

The only thing a woman should be doing with a car is cleaning it.

What you have quoted is more or less what was in Bombay's link
