Gladys Posted March 5, 2006 Share Posted March 5, 2006 Yes, I agree with accountability (the appeals process is a kind of peer review) but I don't think that the public election of judges will help. Apart from anything else, in the UK, the judge's role is to represent the Crown and is a Crown appointment. I certainly don't take the fact that judges are elected in the US as any comfort, not sure I would even agree that the US believes in democracy, unless its democracy for certain sectors of their society!
