Changes To The Student Grants System

Sorry!! Its on iomonline, but basically sudents will now need 2 a level passes at grade d to be accepted for a grant, support will be offered to more Open University students - something they never did before and the DoE will now use the income details of both natural parents, even if they are separated or divorced (this one I suspect will be more controversial).

I welcome the changes to Open University funding and believe that only those academically able to go to University should be able to, however i think the divorced parents reg may cause problems to students who perhaps don't know where one parent is etc.

Yes, Firefly, in the hopes that one or both of my two go to Uni, I can't imagine what relevance the income of their father (who does not maintain them now anyway) has in assessing the level of/eligibility for a grant. I would also have concerns that he would not provide the necessary information to enable a grant to be assessed.

Time to make some representations to the DoE?
