This is the key to this whole fiasco:-

He (Skelly) said: ’It’s about the same as last year but written into the contract is the ability and opportunity for us (DfE) to offset it from sponsorship prospects.’

In other words, the DfE decided, a couple of years ago, that they wanted to sell the advertising on Radio TT, themselves. As a consequence, and unsurprisingly, MR's recent bids have been based on covering the gross costs of the broadcast, which is why it has increased from £50k to £113k.

Applications are invited to tender for the 2020 TT broadcasting rights.

Applicants should quote, within their bid, how much they would like Government to pay them.

Although I lost faith a long time ago, I am completely at a loss to see how the hell this works? Is there another major sporting legend where a broadcaster gets paid to lay on the gig?

the next thing will be that the TV rights holder gets paid to do it.

It is all because of brexit.

DfE Government grants for a two week relocation package will be next.

Looking for around thirty five thousand applicants.

Apparently that's the way many sports get TV coverage nowadays Derek. I was surprised too.

It can't be a major sporting event if the local radio station has to be bribed to cover it.

Speculate to accumulate.

It's easy with taxpayer's money.
