Right so we should not hold you MHK’s to account because there is nothing to see. Enjoy your pension as I assume that’s what you got yourself elected for.

Feel free to hold me to account, but an investigative journalist is an expensive specialist that no media outlet on the IOM could afford. Do you really want some hack going through rubbish bins and pulling the 'fake Sheik' stunts we've seen in the UK? Oh, and you assume wrong: as an existing pensioner I'm probably not eligible for the government pension scheme - or for a golden handshake if I lose my seat.

When there was a Morning Mandate there would be politicians interviewed, and under the circumstances of the Promenade - a highly topical subject - there would be interviews with business owners etc. Not so much investigative, but holding politicians to account.

Manx Radio has got too dumbed down. That's what happens when the serious presenters are pushed out or die, and the fun boys such as Alex take over.

You got yourself an easy ride now Mr Peters.

Any idea how much an investigative reporter would cost, and how little chicanery they might uncover?

Wasn't sure where else to put this, but seeing as it's reported on MR.

https://www.manxradio.com/news/isle-of-man-news/heysham-sailing-cancelled-due-to-poor-weather/

'Sailing cancelled because of rain'.  I know it's going to be windy, but the article blames the rain.  I would have thought that if anything should be cancelled because of rain, it wouldn't be a bloody great boat!

Full 5 year term. You sure  about that? Is that why HQ went for a second 5 years? So your already pulling in one pension whilst continuing to work. I may be a cynic but I think your are in this for the money as I doubt you’ll make much difference or change anything.

Thank you for your ringing endorsement. Yes, you're a cynic, but what is your complaint here - that I've worked and paid tax and NI for 50 years and now qualify for state pension, or that I paid into the MR staff scheme when I could and now get a few quid from that, or more likely that I chose to work on instead of retiring and dying of boredom?

I get that some people believe pensioners working displays greed. But I disagree with them. My Plan B for the election was to scratch along on my pension and a bit of freelance income (I am no stranger to living frugally and within my means), as it is I can now afford a dotage of sex, drugs, rock and roll, anything left over I'll probably just waste.

Most investigative journalists are freelancers, aren't they? And if they've uncovered stuff that IOMG would rather their residents didn't about then it ain't gonna get aired by MR or printed by IOM Newspapers.  There are stories out there and you don't have to dig too deep.

Well if wasting money floats your boat, being an MHK will be right up your street

Which illustrates my point: if there is so much graft that could be unearthed by a freelance investigative journalist, we'd be inundated by them. And again, I think ALL the Manx media would jump at the chance to run shock horror headline exposes. Mainstream media will always be more careful to verify actual facts rather than run with speculation (unlike online/social media), but every editor I've ever known loves the idea of running a juicy tale, as long as it won't land them in court.

I wasn't suggesting we/they would be inundated with them. And there's more to corruption than graft. As I said, you don't have to dig too deep. You'll find out in due course now you're on the inside.

Well you could if you are bored get a real job instead of getting lucky down to your ‘public profile’ and a lack of better candidates in Middle. I predict 5 years of you getting in the papers a lot. No departmental roles either for you or any real role. I guess you were not asked or turned them down as with them would have come real responsibility. Nice work if you can get it.

That's just sad.
