Post abortion leaflets outside Tynwald

https://www.manxradio.com/news/isle-of-man-news/post-abortion-leaflets-outside-tynwald/

More world class reportage from the prizewinners in the Manx Radio newsroom. Can anyone translate the heading for me? In English?

"The Post Abortion Support for Everyone group will offering leaflets outside Tynwald today."

Top class.

Wallbies not in for the high jump

Also superb.

That report is worryingly short of detail. It really needed to make clear  it is from an anti-abortion group. The report reads like a community notice -  "If you need abortion support pop down to Tynwald."

Look at the website though -

The accuracy, reliability, standard of English and all-round quality of MR’s news offering, especially on their website, is utterly lamentable. This is the perfect illustration of their failure to grasp an issue and/or communicate it effectively. Dreadful.

Yes it's quite shocking (and very bad of Manx Radio to treat it so uncritically).  This 'counselling' organisation seems mainly to exist to make women feel as guilty as possible for having an abortion - and to include as many other people in the guilt and blame as possible.  But the truth is that most women don't feel guilty about having had an abortion at all.  A bit regretful about the necessity perhaps, but accidents happen and circumstances change and they are usually sure they have made the right decision.  And it then really isn't the business of anyone else.  To try to make women feel that they 'ought' to feel sad and worried is appalling, though it's what too much of discussion on the topic assumes.

Even if women and their partners feel bad emotionally - as they might say if they've had to abort a wanted pregnancy that has produced a badly-damaged foetus - I would think the last people they should turn to for help would be these religious guilt-merchants, who would surely make their grief far worse.  Rather than promoting them, Manx Radio should be exposing them.

It was a first this morning on Mandate. Chris Thomas was on and he was actually quite interesting and speaking about his own life and how he became involved in politics.

IT was good, but just as he was getting into it, the interviewer broke in and wanted to show how smart and clever he was too.

Can someone at Manx Radio get a grip of John Moss and kick his arse for him. Yes he is clever and intelligent and knowledgeable and has a sense of humour, but someone needs to tell him: There is a time to talk and a time to listen (aka STFU)

You mean interrupting like this.

Yes, that's the one. Thanks.

It was good to hear Chris Thomas speaking for once as other than a rather boring and tedious Westminster mole parachuted deep into the Isle of Man political system, but when he spoke about his past life Mossie was stopping him from going full flow, just when it was getting interesting.

Hmmm, maybe it's Mossie that is the Westminster implant then?

Maybe my imagination is running OTT?

As part of their whinge campaign, I see Manx Radio have been flogging the support from the Public Media Alliance in response to the Select Committee findings in order to vindicate their own stance i.e. it needs nearly a million quid of taxpayers' money a year plus take advertising in order to still run at a loss

The link to the story is here

What the story fails to mention is that Anthony Pugh, current MD of Manx Radio, is on the Board of the Public Media Alliance.

Unbiased, impartial, etc....lol.

Manx Radio should have declared that interest in their story. It surely would have made things much clearer for the listener and is the common practice in journalism I believe. Not to have done that undermines there creditability. Cue Mr Peters to defend the station....lol
