Whoever thought putting a crappy advert on to the tune of the Manx National Anthem is well out of line.

Agree. There would be at least 3 complaints to the advertising standards authority if this was the UK national anthem and it would be banned.

Seriously though...no one should be using the anthem to advertise.

Protected under copywright, so can not be used for commercial advertising purposes without relevant agreements being in place.  Highly unlikely copywright/licensing etc will be in place for this of this use of the Manx national anthem tune.

Fault and liability will be with the organisation that has produced the commercial if the relevant clearance is not in place, Manx Radio would also be liable if they have broadcast it without relevant PRS/MCPS clearance in place.

The same would apply with the UK national anthem too of course.

Slightly different scenario if it is more of a programming piece, eg. if the audio piece mentions Manx Radio in any way.  If it does, it’s actually fine to use! “

First performed at the Manx Music Festival on 21 March 1907 so predates copyright, so its fair game to use it like any classical piece, only an issue if you use an arrangement of the original piece that is under copyright, but given its manx radio likely its a very bad cod reggae version.

Who's being disrespected?

Howard Quayle? A man who has got fat and rich off the Island.

The Governor? A man who is nestled here out to pasture as a reward for sucking and serving the system all his life?

The Deputy Governor? A man who was placed in a high position to serve the Isle of Man but decided he wanted to go back into the shady and greedy way of Manx life, again?

The Queen herself? Probably thinks the Isle of Man is orft the coast down the south somewhere.

The most famous version of the American national anthem is by Jimmy Hendrix. Loved by many and intentionally disrespectful.

The lads' version of the Manx National Anthem nicely takes the pomposity out of the ridiculous Manxies who believe the Isle of Man to be some glorious caring loving special nation. You will find those people are very much like the above listed and are at the front of the queue of teet suckers. Rose tinted spectacles firmly and securely in place.

In your opinion. I don't think you'll find many Manxer than Mr & Ms Joughin. I'm sure they'll be pleased to see that their advertising is getting a bigger reach thanks to your postings.

Listen to this bs from Martyn Perkins MHK. They really believe what they say don't they. And I am sure so do their CPA colleagues in Guernsey. How much are we paying these guys to jolly (yes - it is a jolly - a jolly, jolly CPA jolly) the world and spout this self important stuff

Nice work if you can get it.

Manx Radio, MHK discusses 'media freedom' at Guernsey conference

Media Freedom. Quality Journalism.

Media Freedom. Er, didn't one of his Tynwald colleagues/predecessors declare that internet forae (of the supposedly ill-informed variety) should be shut down?

Quality Journalism. Of the sort supplied by Govt to state-funded outlets for public consumption?

ETA, has the Vermin, sorry, Rodent wangled his way onto this junket as well?

Such matters are not discussed at Commonwealth Parliamentary Association jollies.

They are all self-serving egotists clubbed together to celebrate how wonderful they are with like minded individuals from around the world. The British Commonwealth anyway.

The decision to send these people on CPA gravy train jollies should be put to the respective MHK's constituents.

That might shake the buggers up a bit. All they have to do is suck up and drool over the Clerk of Tynwald or whoever and they get a nice little reward.
