Why weren't MR at today's briefing? I am sure Brindley said that they weren't allowed but would still be covering the announcement and AM for questions.  Curiouser and curiouser.

There’s now a rota. It wasn’t their day if the week.

Thanks, it was just a bit strange how it was presented.

As for covering the entire briefing, I absolutely agree, the questions are helpful, even if a bit inane at times.

Brindley is obviously taking the 'Cash for no questions' idea literally.  This actually makes it look as if Manx Radio is trying to suppress any criticism of the government - even if it's from its own news staff.

It's a really stupid idea, even from a public information perspective.  It's often in the questions that ambiguities in policies or missing information gets highlighted and maybe corrected.  If all we wanted was the official statements we can read those on the website and the only people who will want to hear them live are mispronunciation fans.

To be fair though the press briefings have been a national disgrace. Manx Radio shouldn't be broadcasting them and they and the fucking Talking Gerbil shouldn't be streaming them on-line. It only plays into ego of the despicable failled Chief Minister. It's disgusting that instead of having the daily figures and policy announcements released in a measured way by press release, it's been turned into a game show. How after turning the announcement of the first death into an occasion for jazz hands and razzmatazz Howard and the Governor have been able ot continue in office is beyond me.

Stop broadcasting them. Stop steaming them. Demand dignity from the office.

Encouraging active opposition in parliament

Do you think there was ever any intention?

It hasn't existed for years. Remember Bell and his Rainbow Coalition that was supposed to get us out of the VAT mess? Even Karran got a job. Get them all in the tent pissing out....

Basically this.

When you wonder where all the money goes, and how life this year is a little bit worse and a little bit harder than it was last year you just need to look at the grandstanding arses that crave the attention of a DAILY briefing so that they can attach their own personal 'thoughts and prayers' to the words that could have been printed on a side of A4 and sent in a fax.

The whole collaboration between layers of unnecessary "national" governance and layers of unnecessary "national" journalists is an afront to real life. They both exist to enable each other, and they are doing it at OUR expense.

Would life really be much worse if we abolished both?

edit: to add, I've come across as one of the dastardly "libertarians" in this post. I'm not. We need more redistribution and more funds put back into the people of the island. This charade at the top just sucks money out of the system that could be doing a lot - an awful lot - to make our actual lives better.
