Its such a great pity that the Manin line gets shelved over the holidays...

it must be one of the most popular shows on the radio...

Must be very stressful for attention addicts like 'Julian', cooked up with mother with no reason to live, how are you managing?

Hell, yeah - I’ll take Vanishing Point and XTRMNTR over Screamadelica any day of the week.

The cool thing is that with Spotify and other streaming services you can listen to whatever pop music you like.  No need for a government to subsidise it - either via direct funding or via the provisioning of cut price spectrum space.

Why?  If you want to hear soul music in 2022 you just use Spotify, deezer, Apple Music, Amazon music or YouTube music.

Why would you limit yourself to having to tune in at a set time?

Because I also want to be entertained here somebody explain who is being played etc . You might not want that but I do it may come as something of a surprise to you but we don’t all want the same !

In which case you should be allowed to subscribe to a service which provides exactly that. If the demand for that exists.

We don't need old fashioned radio any more. Clogging up expensive spectrum.

Loads of stations that will do that for you without having to wait for a set time.

If I really wanted that for soul music as you suggested, I would rather get it from a dedicated station where the presenters are really interested and enthusiastic than a Manx Radio presenter who has been told to do a Soul show to fill an hour or two.

That is absolutely not the sort of thing I want my tax money spent on.

You really do need to check yourself out . I have a lot of books and reading material so I don’t need a local library. But you know what I know a lot of people who value it for any number of reasons and for that reason even though I don’t use it I am very happy to contribute towards its costs . This is just one example of public expenditure there are lots of others that’s how society works !

This is the same as arguing that you don’t want your taxes spent on roads as you personally don’t drive. We have taxes and government to provide a range of public services - services that some, but not all, will use. When we ditch that principle in favour of total individualism our society will be infinitely poorer.

Exactly I completely agree with you I am not advocating that approach at all but saying like asthehills does “ I don’t want my taxes spent on Manx Radio is exactly that !

Yes and no. We need a continuous analysis of what services are still important as common resources. Or whether that money could be better used addressing need elsewhere.

Libraries and old fashioned radio were once much more important to most people than they are today.
