manxchatterbox
the Assistant Town Clerk has produced a report saying that a trial of document imaging and management equipment has taken place in the Town Clerk's dept over the last twelve months and it has "proven to be a useful mechanism in reducing paperwork and enhancing document management".... ...so what is the outcome?? they are looking for a new large capacity photocopier for the Ballacottier site and four "less sophisticated" photocopiers for the Town Clerk's Dept reception, the Treasurer's Dept, the Engineer & Surveyor's Dept, and the Library.. note photocopiers....why not scanner's if the aim is to reduce paperwork rather than photocopiers which increase it!!!! Gladys
Many photocopiers have scanners built in nowadays.
Declan
When they introduced scanning and imaging at our place paper consumption went up. People would print out the images so they could make notes on them and the front and back would be scanned as two separate sheets.
manxchatterbox
IMO copy paper consumption will rocket with Bridson & Horrox rubbing their hands with the increase in sales
LoneWolf
note photocopiers....why not scanner's if the aim is to reduce paperwork rather than photocopiers which increase it!!!! Has it never entered your head that there may be other reasons, unrelated to internal document management systems, why the Town Council require a few photcopiers ? manxchatterbox
the Corpy's Policy and Resources Committee decided for the reasons stated that the photocopies be purchased...so I don't have to consider or give any other reasons...

manxchatterbox
I do not have to state any reasons numbskull..... you clearly do not do too well with English comprehension....the Asst Town Clerk said the system had "proven to be a useful mechanism in reducing paperwork and enhancing document management".... He was referring to the document management system according to the garbage you posted. Not to the procurement of photcopiers. Read what you have posted. Declan
You've made two statements of fact - 1. The imaging system's trial was successful. 2. New Photocopiers have been ordered. But you haven't shown a link.
manxchatterbox
don't shoot the messenager...like I've already said its the Corpy committee that's decided to purchase photocopiers when the trials have been of imaging and document management systems.... its they who linked the two...why not ask them why they are buying photocopiers not scanners.... BigDave
We've got some belting photocopiers at work. They are also scanners, document servers, faxes and network printers. The fax side of them also emails the incoming faxes rather than printing them. We've cut down our reliance on hardcopy for numerous tasks thanks to these. hboy
don't shoot the messenager... I'm sure many who read these boards are often tempted Are you suggesting that public authorities should not buy photocopiers? Or are you suggesting that they should not use paper? Or maybe that they should neither use paper or possess photocopiers and that the contents of letters should be passed down verbally from corpy worker to corpy worker like Red Indian folklore, rather than relying on optical imaging technology which is cheap and relatively efficient? Declan
don't shoot the messenager... be passed down verbally from corpy worker to corpy worker like Red Indian folklore Hey it has worked up to now. The Town Hall is regularly regaled with the chronicles of Wandering Pooper-Scooper, Discarded Fag Butt Collector, and Chief By-Law Enforment Officer, legendary members of a nomadic tribe of council employees. Living in perfect harmony with the environment, they silently move around the town in a never ending quest to preserve its delicate ancient eco-system.
