Anti Limit Meeting

Amadeus

Recommended Posts

To get some movement into the Anti Speed Limit lobby, I propose a kind of public meeting, say

(Please note change of time/date!)

Monday

19.00 hours

The Outback, Douglas

Proposed Agenda:

- Show public disagreement with the flawed campaign and consultation

- Look for possible steps to be taken in the short time that's left

Nothing really formal - thought behind it is: All the talk here is good, but doing something is better - we'll see what that 'something' will turn out to be. Edit: Time and venue are fixed to the above now.

Does meeting in a pub really set the kind of tone which you might be looking for? Could be an own goal.

I can see the local newspaper twist: Outback Drinkers Slam Limits. It's always "slam".

Maybe if you all met in a Methodist hall. Or on the field by the hill at St Johns.

I think it is a very good idea.

Advert on Manx Radio and on the nolimit website etc. might be useful to rally additional volunteers, plus maybe some discussions on here e.g. draft petition design, feasibility of door to door names collection, and/or whether we can we obtain a few thousand consultation leaflets to get people to fill in at their door etc.

Is the Outback open on a Sunday afternoon? Do we need to check with them, if you haven't already done so. Might gain more support if it was done at Bushy's? (TT association and all that)

Though good point about a neutral venue Simon.

how about a slow drive out with as many cars as possible driving from Douglas to say C'town...

great idea and we could all crash into each other at the end in an horrendus pile up to prove you dont have to go fast to crash.

Maybe if you all put your heads together you could come up with a single reason not to introduce a limit, because you've been blathering on about it for the last couple of years and still haven't.

Er...consultations so far PEOPLE 1...GOV'T (CERTAIN POLITICIANS AND INTERNAL LOBBY GROUPS) 0

Sorry - forgot the race is at 13.00....

Changed the time to 16.00 in the first post - would that be ok for the majority?

Outback is open Sunday afternoon - they know about it, and are ok with it.

Other proposed alternative would be Monday, early evening. (Was thinking that most people might be working Saturday / Monday during daytime/afternoon, so Sunday sounded like a good idea)

Simon: I see your point regarding meeting in a Pub, but it's open, doesn't cost anything, and is about the right size, so let's hope any journos that may report about it see beyond that.. Still open for alternatives - pref. quick ones, though - not much time left to get something going...

If you're planing to attend, could you please either reply to this thread, or drop a quick email to amadeus@manx.net - just so that we get an idea about the numbers - the more, the better.
