Lonan3
Since the interim census was obviously a long time in the planning/preparation stage, can anyone think of a good reason why it wasn't possible to incorporate questions about an all-island speed limit and a complete smoking ban within it and get a genuine reflection of local support for such measures? A census with an optional section/form on such things would have been far too sensible, controlled and auditable. You obviously don't know much about government - the government has a responsibility to spend tax payers money so it's far better to spend all the money on these things separately, just like when I take my family out for a meal and we all order separate cabs there and back. TerryMcCann
Nobody has so much as called at my door and dropped off a form so I guess that is one person less on the Census.
Mission
Not very good that though, is it? Heh, maybe you could dodge paying your rates too, seeing as you don't exist.

I don't think it would be so sensible Albert. The census performs a specific function - it isn't intended or designed to root - out opinions and it is conducted according to specific rules.* There might be an argument for a referendum. That would be a different matter. Then again - who would decide what is a matter for referendum? Personally I'm not particularly in favour of referendums since I'd prefer governments to be elected to serve on a mandate - the politicians standing on their manifestos and on their support, or not, for the specifics of a government plan. * you might just as well argue that the rates, income taxation, electricity and water bills should all be merged into one easy - to - manage payment - since all of these also come from government. caringwife
Mcb, there is a very heavy fine for those who dont return their census forms, the form distributer asked us to pass a form onto a neighbour who so far hasnt returned the original form. I couldnt resist asking what the penalty is for refusal to comply!
Jenniebean
I was sitting outside my parents house in the sun when the census woman came round and she came out with this sentence.. "Are there 5-6 student lodgers all living here?, What is the name of the your landlord?" which I found greatly offensive I was wearing men pyjamas and moon boots at 2oclock in the afternoon at the time tho.
