Indian Restaurant

FROM MANX RADIO

A planning inspector has confirmed a decision to allow an Indian restaurant in Laxey to provide a takeaway service.

Brown’s, on the Ham and Eggs Parade, had successfully applied for permission to provide takeaway meals until 10pm at night as well as its sit-in restaurant.

However, one family of neighbours living on the terrace appealed, saying the noise, parking problems and traffic congestion would be unbearable.

Planning inspector Terrence Kemmann-Lane said such problems would normally cause an outcry, but in this case only one household had supplied very slender evidence of nuisance.

He dismissed the appeal, allowing the takeaway service to go ahead.

Yeah right, Ham n Egg cafe isnt big enough to cause traffic congestion and parking problems. There loads of parking spaces in laxey and the car park infront of the cafe is big enough.Laxey needs something like this cus at the moment its a ghost town at night. I think thereshould be something done for the Teenagers aswell, youth clubs and skate parks are in the past.

I don't live there but I do know that Laxey has a least one youth club, good playing pitch provision and that the commissioners have recently re-instated a bmx track. On top of that it does have a decent beach and is very close to the countryside.

I don't really see the connection between a takeaway and facilities for kids. It seems to me that the kids in Laxey should have plenty to do.

Moaning bastards. It closes at 10 so there is no after pub noise to worry about and how often do you actually see yobbish teenagers hanging about outside an Indian takeaway? Never. They will be far too busy standing outside the Spar trying to get adults to buy them a bottle of Merrydown.

Beaches, BMX track, Football pitch? yeah for 12 year olds and as for the footy pitch well it would be good if they could actualy play on it but they cant, kennish kicks them off cus they ruin the pitch. Bloody youth club..they have to have a bottle of white lightning just to talk them into going inn.

I agree that giving kids/young people something to do is important but I still don't see the relevance of the takeaway story. Anyway, has anyone got any suggestions? Anyone tried speaking to the commissioners?

I do find it hard to beleive that people cannot find things to do on this Island, there's a lot of free countryside out there.

and I thought the Commissioners were stopped from improving the other sport facilities down the glen road !, seems like the residents don't want improvements, maybe they want to put the kids down the mines :(

(nowt to do with the takeaway either !)

I thought they already did takeaway? I had one the other week (very nice it was too).

Since there's a Chinese takeaway just across the road, surely they'd already be having traffic congestion problems? Even with the traffic lights on that junction it wasn't that bad!

Yes it's quiet, but it's nice like that. Not really a ghost town by any stretch of the imagination, do you reckon they should build a couple of nightclubs or casinos or something down here?

Yeah it is nice when its quiet, i spend most of my time in laxey and its great. It would be even better if their was an indian and somewhere for the teenagers to go instead of them walking past my laxey home knocking wing mirrors off our cars and scratching them every weekend. I do admit though it is hard to come up with ideas to keep the teenagers occupied but there must be something out there but we got to think what? oh well maybe it looks like the laxey glenn and a bottle of woodpecker for the teens on friday nights till someone has an idea.
