Most of the items handed in will be from law-abiding citizens who have lots of stuff hidden in the attic or in the garage - like Grandads Khukuri knife that he got in the war etc. and not those weapons in the possession of the scallies. This is just 'feel-good' carp. Still nice to know that 10,000 sharp implements are off the streets - just a pity that there are about 50 million still in the shops and available for anyone to buy.
