manxman8180
And since when does "senior manager" mean "top exc" (sic) I don't really know. But from reading the story, he is currently residing at Majestic Apartments whilst his house in Lag Birragh Drive is being refurbished. So, in real terms, he must be faffing proper minted. It is pleasing that he will be slung off the rock as well.
VinnieK
I'm more worried that people are obviously being exploited and paid such a pitiful wage, regardless of whether they're here legally or not, than the idea that manx jobs are being stolen. Ideally, all immigration would run through official and legal channels, but until that time comes these employers are guilty not only of exploiting others and defying the law, but also of being complicit in encouraging (by making it impossible for these people to live without pooling their resources and banding together in overcrowded, run down accommodation) growth of the kind of ghettoisation that is a feature of some cities with larger illegal immigrant populations. Roger Smelly
Evil b@stard, no wonder he needs to go to church. History repeats itself as usual, in this modern world slavery is still being used. Greed is the modern plague "man is not know by money alone".

The Old Git
Who is being exploited? The illegal immigrants who were paid less and had to work longer than they were promised? The rest of us who pay tax? The laws of this country and the UK? People should be free to live where ever they want to But we're not. There's hugh swathes of the world where I can't live or work and it's the same for many (most?) other people.
Theskeat
You're missing my point. Who is being exploited? I am when a builder asks for £700 to do a bit of rendering. Local smokal, I'm Manx and I could argue the toss about English workers taking our jobs, but that is a futile argument. Face it, you are all being racist. People should be free to live where ever they want to and if a man from Thailand wants to come here and work for £20.00 a week it should be his call. The rules are set up to protect? I think the rules are set up to be broken by the people who are still exploiting people anyway. Yes the builder charging £700 for a bit of rendering, CHEAP. If it takes him a week to do the job, by the time hes paid his labourer, insurance, materials, transport and plant, how much has he made, would it be enough to pay for his household bills or morgage. A self employed tradesman has to earn £150 per day at least just to break even over the year when living on the Island. How can a local tradesmen survive if he had to charge out what the Polish workers are earning.

manxman8180
His original post didn't include that last gem of a line. He must have looked at it and decided it needed a bit of spit and polish (sorry ) to make it sparkle.

hboy
Yes it could - articles in the Times and the Telegraph as well - so much for branding! Its actually in the Times, the Sun and the Telegraph - what a brilliant advert for the Isle of Man "Loony preacher in illegal immigrant scam" the tabloids will love it! If thats bad enough you want to look at the Life Church site - I've never seen such complete utter bollocks designed to draw in the vulnerable in before. Its putridly sickly in its message. He says that he has 800 members - thats 1% of the population of the Island who are chronically gullible / mad. More importantly this guy got a work permit and managed to worm his way into a senior executive position, whilst providing forged papers so that illegals can work on his house virtually for free. Its pure class. I hope the bank are doing a full audit on his activities. Its very embarrasing publicity for the Island and just shows that we can stick our heads in the sand but these things are going on under our noses all the time. No thats pure tabloid material - they would always run with this sort of stuff as you couldn't script a better plot. Its just a shame that he had to be living here and we get the whip end.
