jonny rotten
Question in Tynwald Wednesday revealed that the DOTL has contracted a UK marketing agency called Signature to "maximise revenues" from the TT. This apparently equates to making people who earm money at the TT from selling T-shirts and hospitality etc pay the government even more for the privilege. And they'll have to because it seems Signature's fee is £70,000 a year (announced in Tynwald) plus 22% commission on extra revenue generated. Do the sums - they need to get £70k out of the TT to pay themselves BEFORE they're on a profit. If the DOT want to maximise profit froom the TT in 2007 then the quickest and easiest way would be to sack Signature and save £70k, but instead we'll just send it off-island in a nice brown envelope to someone who knows nothing about the event (and won't give a toss about it beyond 2007) and try to squeeze it back from the small businesses who've been supporting the TT (and yes, earning from it as well) for years. studmuffin
22% commission on any extra revenue generated. FFS they could do nothing and make money - revenue it of course going to be up next year being the centenary. That company must be laughing there arses of all the way to the bank
jonny rotten
All they're doing is taking money from manx businesses and giving it to a company in England, and you have to ask yourself why?

Ripsaw
Why not pay a visit to their informative website I was hoping to say something positive along the lines of "at least the website validates"... BUT IT DOESN'T!!!
Conceptor Hewitt
Did anyone notice any difference in the way the TT was run/marketed/presented this year with Signature's involvement? Or was the first 70 grand just to "consolidate the global brand" and ask everybody on the island what the TT is all about. A better link to Signature on the web can be found Here
Slim
Why would you employ a promotions company that can't even promote itself?
jonny rotten
why employ a promotions company at all? and why employ an off-island company that knows NOTHING about the TT or the event sponsorship market.

You don't really know what your talking about do you? Fair enough have a gripe about the situation, but don't assume that a company you don't know, knows 'NOTHING' about the TT. Gladys
One would assume that if they have expertise in spending sponsors' money, they will have the expertise in sourcing those sponsors!
jonny rotten
I don't think it's safe to assume anything of the sort and the fact that Shell trusts them to organise hospitality doesn't necessarily mean that thet are experienced or any good at bringing in new sponsorship money to the tt, which was my point - they need to bring in an EXTRA £70,000 next year for the status quo to be maintained, and about £150,000 EXTRA to make a meaningful contribution - 70k = status quo, 150k = - 70 for their fee leaving 80k, then less 22 per cent of 150k in commision = 50k for the government

You have a gripe about it and that's cool. But your point was that they no 'nothing' about the TT, and to that end you have no knowledge. You are making assumptions based on..... nothing. Vent your anger. Write to the minister of fun. But don't make sweeping assumptions without something to back it up with.
jonny rotten
no. my POINT was that they are being paid £70,000 to bring extra revenue to the TT and that the easiest way to raise an extra £70,000 next year would be to sack them and save the mony.
