Chinahand Posted August 21, 2006 Share Posted August 21, 2006 Not sure if this is being debated elsewhere, but am I the only one who is finding the Newsbot annoying? It's making the board move much more quickly and its creating topics which I'm just not interested in. Also sometimes people are opening their own topics which are similar to the Newbots ones and you end up with half the people posting in one and half in the other ... which is a waste of time and space. On the first 2 pages of local news there are 10 Newsbot topics most of which have zero posts. If it was a separate area I'd occassionally browse it, but having it linked into the main Local News section is just fagging up the entire section. It was a nice experiment ... but I'd rather if it was gone ... especially as the BBC News page now lets you input your postcode and get localized news right on their front page. They pick up stories that I don't often get elsewhere and I like having it all on the same manx page, and not going here then to the BBC website on the off chance of there being a story I'm interested in. I don't find the topics clog up the board much, but I only go on 'view new posts' - does it look bad on the other pages? That been said - a forum where I am a mod uses this format and too many feeds can make the place messy - using the single one like you are now is fine. I've yet to find a way to get it to filter out Moderator Hangout and Trash Can posts though so I'm not going to post instructions until that's fixed. You're the only one currently vocal about it. Please remember that there was a lengthy debate about Newsbot which the majority of people indicated they wanted to keep. I have absolutely no interest in the Music section here and pretty much never read a thread unless I'm extremely bored or someone points me that way for some reason. A non specialised local forum like this is bound to attract many topics you're not interested in and I'm sure it has done for some time. Also sometimes people are opening their own topics which are similar to the Newbots ones and you end up with half the people posting in one and half in the other ... which is a waste of time and space. Where we see them, we close them. If you can post up some specific examples where this has happened as I'd be surprised if it's happened more than three times. Your later suggestion to put this in another section would amplify this problem dramatically. We may even need two hands to count the number of occurances. Im a fan of RSS and have joined in the RSS Bandit project with more than a little bit of enthusiasm. However, Im not certain the newsbot adds to the forum.
