Amadeus
Well, not to here, but to Germany. Big W is visiting Angela Merkel's constituency of Stralsund (on the Baltic coast), and somehow no-one is too excited - might have something to do with the circus surrounding it: - 12,000 police will be on duty - All shipping to and from this port city will be halted for two days - 2200 manhole covers will be welded shut - Businesses will have to close - All cars must be removed from the area - All wheelie bins have to be removed from the pavement - Local residents will not be allowed to leave their houses between 9:30 a.m. and 60 minutes after the end of the visit - They even have to keep their windows shut - A huge fence will be erected around the "High Security area" - Costs are estimated to hit 12 Million Euros And all that, so Dubya can stay there for two days for no big reason - he's only visiting that place, because Merkel invited him to have a look at her hometown - great stuff The last time Big W came to the Fatherland, they even closed of the motorways surrounding the area - surrounding as in "a good 30 miles away" Just how much security does one person need?? VikingRaider
We were in Vienna a few weeks ago when the great man (sic) visited for 20 hours ... complete chaos for 2 days and totally screwed up everyone's lives ... he was not a popular man with the locals. Why can't he just meet people at a secure military base in the middle of nowhere where they can keep him safe and avoid the need to inconvenience everybody else ?? Bombay Bad Boy
2 things: Who coughed up the €12m? and Dubya must think that all towns are like securityfests, what's the point in coming to visit, if it ain't like that normally?
Nitro
2200 manhole covers will be welded shut , I'm sure he'll still manage to do something stupid!

Amadeus
2 things:Who coughed up the €12m? The German taxpayer, obviously - great Angela invited him.. andDubya must think that all towns are like securityfests, what's the point in coming to visit, if it ain't like that normally? A few selected locals will be allowed to meet him during a specially organised BBQ - wuhu.... They also have a few warships, U-Boats and fighter planes doing their stuff during his visit - can't be careul enough if the whole world doesn't really like you... Edit: I like his car, though - 2006 Cadillac DTS Presidential Limousine This is the most heavily armored presidential vehicle to date. The jet-black skin has 5 inches worth of ballistic armor, and is said to be able to withstand anti-tank grenade lauchers. The underside of the car is also armored. The windows, which do not open, are transparent armor thick enough to block sunlight, which is the reason the interior is illuminated with fluorescent lighting. The vault like doors require automatic systems to open. Any casual observer can see the rolling fortress with the white rims on the tires, completing the armoring with a run-flat tire system. The limousine is also environmentally sealed against chemical and biological attacks. And there's the 35+ cars Motorcade as well Plus his plane, helicopter, etc... Two questions for any Anoraks: - The 747 he uses is called Airforce One when he's on board - what's the call sign when he isn't? and - What's the helicopter's call sign when W is on board? Bombay Bad Boy
Edit: I like his car, though - 2006 Cadillac DTS Presidential Limousine Mmm, not bad. How about this ? The 6-wheeled (3-axle) truck can be fitted with a guided missile launcher (3 km range) and a launcher for a remote-controlled Unmanned Air Vehicle. Or would sir prefer the Mark 3 featuring a remote controlled 50-calibre machine gun - a surveillance module with a 360-degree camera, a pan and tilt night vision camera with laser range finder, and a terrain adjustable suspension and chassis system. The vehicle has sufficient gross vehicle weight (GVW) to accommodate armor and additional weapons or control modules

Karellen
You all mock, but 4 serving US presidents have been assassinated whilst in office, and every president in the last 35 years has had an attempt on his life. Believe it or not there are evil people out there who would do him harm - who could argue its better for the leader of the free world to be safe than sorry!
