manxchatterbox
who else remebers going on the train from St Johns to Ramsey?? this is what it should be like...why has it taken so long to realise the mistake of taking the track up in the first place? 16 June 2006 WEST COAST TRUNK LINE PHASE 1 – SULBY TO BALLAUGH TEMPORARY CLOSURE OF HERITAGE TRAIL FOOTPATH - DLT Press Release As part of the ongoing Capital Investment Programme designed to bring better transport to all parts of the Island, the Isle of Man Department of Transport are now concentrating on installing a new overhead electrified main line railway down the West Coast of the Island. The first phase of this work will be between Sulby and Ballaugh, using the Heritage Trail to minimise disruption to the general public. To facilitate this work it is necessary to close the Heritage Trail, in a rolling closure order, for a period of approximately six months. The work will be carried out in stages with the first closure from Gob-e-Volley (The Gate House) to its junction with the Curraghs Wildlife Park coming into effect from Wednesday, 14th June through to Friday, 18th August, 2006. An alternative route for walkers and cyclists is via the A3 main road footpath. Part of this closure will continue on from the entrance to the Wildlife Park to the junction with the B9 Road. Entrance to the Curraghs Wildlife Park will be maintained as normal. Ongoing closures will be in phases from the eastern gate entrance to the Ballaugh Park, from the eastern gate to the western gate and lastly from the junction with the A10 to approximately 300m to the west of the junction with the A10, with work hoping to be completed by the beginning of December 2006. The Isle of Man Department oif Transport apologises for any inconvenience caused by this temporary closure and requests the forbearance and understanding of the public during this period of necessary works. Should you have any queries during the course of the work please contact Patrik O’Mahoney of Aul'done Infrasuperstructure Ltd. on 666066 and/or the Isle of Man Department of Transport Customer Services Department on 612345. http://www.gov.im/lib/news/water/westcoasttrunkma.xml

I do - just. But today - can you imagine it - the poor dears would have to walk all the way from the station in Ramsey to the shops, and that's way too far for the Island's aging population. thebees
It would be great to have a train from Douglas to Peel again. Edit, I just read the monorail page - want one, that would be so ace from Douglas to Peel and and and it would be another form of rail entertainment on the Island - which would please the filmindustry people (I dont know why, it just will) and may also encourage more tourists...to rent peoples luxury appts on the prom.
