mojomonkey
As there is a valid planning approval relating to the building and it is for sale I don't think this is a major scoop.
mollag
I was born and spent my formative years in Hope Street so i for one are glad of this post. I will miss the Arms, i enjoyed some great nights in the public bar. By the by, does anyone know the reason for two r's in forresters but only one in forest? mojomonkey
I regret never going in there for a pint when I had the chance - looks like it had some character.
mollag
In the fifties and sixties it was leaping, a tourist pub with tables outside, singing room etc. On one occasion Bob Cretney brought a donkey into the bar, a great tale but is definatly a two pinter

mojomonkey
Sadly, I'd seriously doubt that the pub made enough money to cover its costs over the last few years.

When Skies Are Grey
its going going and maybe tomorrow it'll be gone... So what do you suggest be done with it.....in fairness it was a shit hole of a pub by the time it closed (and yes yes I remember all the rose tinted comments about what a "real" boozer it was in its day) but if the drinking market has moved, rightly or wrongly, and you don't make any money running it then its no wonder it went to wrack and ruin. Gladys
Yep. great chips ... And why Forresters with two 'R's? Because it was named after a local dynasty, the Forresters, nothing to do with wood cutting. (See also the stone laid into the sea wall at Port Soderick.) Lonan3
I'm afraid the writing was on the wall for the Forrester's when the sorting office moved away. Most of the posties used to enjoy a pint or three after work - or during working hours on a Saturday afternoon while they waited for the parcel post to arrive on the boat!
