Right Of Way?

I do remember him saying something about it being a one way road and possibly something to do with the fact the red car is coming up a hill, but as usual I cannot remember the reasons just who has right of way!!

I will text my instructor tomorrow so hopefully we can get the right answer (although I bet all those that have passed their test will still dispute the fact!!).

The traffic island had nothing to do with the right of way,the fact that the car coming down hill has to cross over a lane of traffic coming in the opposite direction even if the traffic is turning or carrying straight on means it has to give way! Take any other junction where you are turning right and crossing traffic lanes you would give right of way,the traffic island seems top be what causes confusion at this junction.

You shouldn't even cross the white line above the pedestrian crossing until you are sure cars coming up the hill and turning left can clear the junction.

Forgot to add that, saying if there wasn't park cars means you could conceivably turn in and sort out right of way on athol st is just crap. The fact is Athol st is one way and the left hand side of the carriageway is marked as a parking lane,do you drive in the gutter while traveling along the prom when there are no cars parked?!?!?! the road does not split into lanes until you approach the lights at the far end.

Roads are what they are not what they could conceviably be,if every one drove to what they thought the rules could conceiviably be we would be in a lot of sh...

most of this assumes local knowledge, someone from outer mongolia should be able to tell where to go or who has right of way by the road markings or signs, there is no way to tell if there is parking allowed in the street before he turns in, and it's only in France they do silly things like giving way to side roads ;)

But Athol Street is one way and it is not a single carriageway road (even though there are cars parked along one side.

So apart from the parked cars, there are still two carriageways - one for those coming up Prospect Hill (red car) and one for them going down Prospect Hill (blue Car).

Now, what about the cars coming from Marks and Spencers onto Victoria Street? They still seem to give way to those cars coming down from Prospect Hill onto Victoria Street even though there are two lanes clearly marked for each to use.

Sorry lard athol st is a single carriageway there are no rd markings to show that it is anything else.Marks and spencers is a filter lane and lets face it not many people seem to know how to use those .The problem there is compounded by the hoarding around the building sit that stops you using the left hand lane and filtering in to the traffic coming down prospect hill.

Sorry - I meant lane not carriageway.

So Athol Street has two lanes - one for the blue car and one for the red car. I know it is a bit tight especially when cars are parked on Mr Red Car's side - in which case he should give way to Mr Blue Car.

If you look at the photo:

There is no reason at all why the car going down prospect Hill shouldn't just hang a right if nothing is approaching up the hill and continue merrily on down Athol Street in the right hand side lane.

Lard you are right in saying both cars have a lane but that is only around the traffic island, they both go into the same single lane [or carriageway]road.this is why there is an issue over who has right of way

Because the majority of drivers here are not used to feeder lanes and have no idea how they work.
