loaf Posted August 9, 2006 Share Posted August 9, 2006 I don't think they've covered this point in the report particularly well but a strange smell can often indicate the beginnings of an electrical fire. Wires get hot, wires melt surrounding plastic and insulation materials = strange smell. To save a burning aircraft or malfunctioning systems I think the pilot did the right thing.
