Casino Crazy
Is there one planned? I wouldn't mind meeting fellow members sober(ish) instead of bumping into them in Colours/Paramount pissed (Tearz).

Tearz
We've organised a couple of meets in the past. Tends to be a lot of initial interest, then a lot of last minute cancellations I'd possibly attend depending on the whats and the wheres etc.

Casino Crazy
What if free food & Lambrini was on offer? That should get the numbers up.
Mission
I personally think the biggest obstacle to these events is that they tend to focus on Douglas. Now don't get me wrong, everytime I've been on one (twice) and every time in general I've been to Douglas I have had a great time but, the cost of getting to/from our capital is a fucking joke. Unless you can crash at someones place and kill some serious time the following day before you're okay to drive or, you know someone that doesn't mind taking you/picking you up, you're stuck with public transport (early bath on the return journey) or not drinking at all (great if you don't anyway, pants if you do). I'd recommend regional get togethers and then maybe a yearly get togther in Douglas with some sort of deal with a hotel there so that people can be sure of a place to kip and no rush to get back the following morning. Just my thoughts.
ans
Your solution to that is to make it a daytime event that doesn't focus on people getting pissed. Bit late now by the look of the weather, but a daytime barbecue where people can bring their kids, turn up when they want and leave before tea is something more people would be keen to do. Make it somewhere where people can camp then there's an optional pissup after the barbecue. People are much more likely to drop in for an hour to say hello in that environment. People don't turn up because they don't know anyone and they don't want to feel obliged spending a whole evening drinking with strangers they may or may not get on with. Those that would turn up are the people that know each other anyway, which makes it all a bit pointless.
Mission
Actually, being a single guy, I'd be less inclined to turn up to a family orientated event. Yes of course, some of us have met but there was a time when we hadn't - first mod night out springs to mind for me. It's always going to be awkward initially but once the night gets going and the booze starts flowing, things soon relax. If you don't like it, you're always free to leave, just as you are on any other night out.
ans
Actually, being a single guy, I'd be less inclined to turn up to a family orientated event. I'd have said you would be in the minority, and for any sort of event you have to attack the biggest group for it to succeed. Yes of course, some of us have met but there was a time when we hadn't - first mod night out springs to mind for me. Fair point, but speaking personally I'd met everyone round that table prior to that night except for you. I think the same was largely true of everyone else. It's always going to be awkward initially but once the night gets going and the booze starts flowing, things soon relax. If you don't like it, you're always free to leave, just as you are on any other night out. Not everyone has the confidence to turn up to an event where they're not going to know anyone and not everyone thinks that leaving an event after an hour when they've travelled a long way looks anything other than rude. Just because you or I don't have issues with appearing rude , doesn't mean there aren't plenty of other people with manners who would put a brave face on it and soldier on and have a thoroughly shit night. I'm just trying to put forward an alternative view. Everyone on here regularly bemoans the fact that there's nothing for people to do over here but go on the piss, and when an opportunity arises for some sort of social event, what do they all suggest? Going on the piss! It's a circular situation. You need someone to suggest something like Laser Tag, or a softball game in a park, or a barbecue so there is something to focus attention on. Lots of people are daunted by the prospect of having to make coversation round a table with nothing more than a few drinks on it and a host of expectant strange faces turning to you every time you open your mouth. Mission
Maybe the answer would be to come up with a monthly event, something different each time. That way, everyone gets catered for at some point and there will undoubtedly be events that will appeal to a member on more than one occassion. Mission
Okay then, lets have some suggestions and I'll start a new thread on Monday with a poll to see which comes out top, then we'll set a date and anyone that fanices it can turn up. Those that don't can put forward suggestions in a new thread the following month and we'll do the same thing.

Lazerblast sounds like a good idea (like paintball without the pain bit).
