Has there ever been anything like a 21st century treasure-hunt-meets-golden-egg type thing, played initially on-line and ending on a day out with BBQ somewhere?

'The Manx Forums Golden Mouse Hunt' or something?

Haven't quite thought much further than that though...

Okay then, lets have some suggestions

I belonged to a North west group and we had several days/nights out......

One that I went to was a day trip to Blackpool pleasure beach.... we all saved the tokens in a daily newspaper and got reduced rides that was a promotion at the time.

Also went to a bbq at someones house, that was ok, a few single guys did go, but they came across so desperate.....

Also went to the Bank hol music festival in Liverpool... the QE2 was in at the time and the place was packed great atmosphere.

Another one I went on was a night out in wigan (never again!!) Wigan is generally a great place, and I already knew a few peeps that were going so i totted along on my tod, the peeps I hadn't met before were very wierd..... an old guy (he was dirty and smelly I pushed him away on several occassions and paid him no attention at all) tried grabbing me on several occassions and tried to kiss me on the lips....... yuk..... everyone else thought it was a joke except me...... so i left without telling anyone.... never been on anymore group meets since... don't let that u put off thou!

You could have so many activities going on over there, ok it wont suit everyone....... maybe a day out at the wildlife park..... a pub crawl in Laxey or Peel or somewhere... another family day out in the Mooragh...... what about a shopping day for the women.....I know the weather isn't on your side now, but you could always have picnics...... beach parties.... a meal..... rambles....u could put a list together of at least one activity a month.. if only 3 or 4 peeps turn up.. what the hell!!! You will always get the same strange odd bod turn up to every do.. but that happens all the time.

Once u get to know each other u could always help out with accomodation or travel....would it work out cheaper to book into a b& b overnite? but day time meets would probably be best at first.....A pub meal at lunchtime on a weekend....would be a good starter.

The above post kind of makes my previous post with the pics somewhat real although I did send it very much tongue in cheek :)

I have met people from the forums and have made some good friends. There are other groups who knew each anyway and have got to know others through the forums, and so it goes.

I think it is bettert for such groups to have their own night out and invite other forum members along rather than have an open ended invite, which can only lead to a bit of a disaster, surely.

Not so much spotted but met feelslikeitshould in the week (even though we already knew each other).

Oh the beauty of internet forums - meeting people you already know.

In relation to a forum night out, the above situation can be a double edged sword IMO....what if you know someone and don't like them but you don't realise they're a forum member until they turn up to the chosen event...? What if you don't like anyone that turns up!? (Not that I'm saying I don't like Mission! I'm just using that to illustrate my point!)

I'd agree with Lard in so much as, a group of forum members who know each other should arrange something i.e. footy/softball/picnic in the park, that way they know there's going to be enough people at the outset to have a laugh/reasonable game. I then think it would be ok to let everyone else on the forum know what's planned and whose going, that way, if you like (or think you might like) the activity and the people definately going you can pop along! Saves being stuck with people you don't like or only 2 people turning up to find out your high school nemisis is the only other person there....

I was thinking that if I knew that there was a Manxforum meet up and I was in the IOM at the time at first my reaction would be, wicked, course I will go - but actually thinking about it, I prob wouldnt for fear of getting battered! And of the people on here that I don't actually like - imagine finding out they are your old teacher, neighbour, mates, your parents mates, and old work mate etc etc. So im sticking with my opinion that yea I think its great if groups of people on here who know each other and actually PM each other get together then thats all good, but not sure about a "blind" night out - I think I would be too embarrassed to be honest!

I like the aninomity of the forum - even though I have posted pics on here and loads of people know who I am, there are lots of people who dont and I would like to keep it that way!

Slinkydevil my post was in context of meeting people in real life and yea like I said " I have posted pics on here " and my webpage is on my sig BUT I meant that in real life i dont want to meet people and just cause you see a few pics of me, or you can see a silly webpage with my musical tastes listed etc no one really knows who I am. Its not the same as walking into a room of people and introducing yourself and getting to know them in real life. Thats what I meant. You can still have aninomity and have a webpage with your picture on cant you?

If I walked down strandstreet or was in a pub in the IOM, I doubt that someone from Manxforums could recognise me from seeing my pic on a webpage - I deffo wouldnt recognise people.
