Lonan3
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/5282440.stm Astronomers meeting in the Czech capital have voted to strip Pluto of its status as a planet. About 2,500 experts were in Prague for the International Astronomical Union's (IAU) general assembly. Astronomers rejected a proposal that would have retained Pluto as a planet and brought three other objects into the cosmic club. Pluto has been considered a planet since its discovery in 1930 by the American Clyde Tombaugh. The ninth planet will now effectively be airbrushed out of school and university textbooks. Has anyone told Mickey?
Ean
So it's discounted because its orbit overlaps with Neptune's? So why is Neptune still a planet, surely it should be discounted because its orbit overlaps with Pluto's?
Mission
Shouldn't this be in the Universal News forum?
mojomonkey
Pluto you say.........Is the corpy's byelaw officer going to do anything about this? Surely the ratepayers of Douglas should be served properly. What about the dog turd?
Cret
That's a right crock. It already is a planet so you can't make it not a planet anymore. It's like defining what a car is then 50 years later saying "hang on, that one doesn't have airbags so it can't be a car after all".
matty
Pluto you say.........Is the corpy's byelaw officer going to do anything about this? Surely the ratepayers of Douglas should be served properly. What about the dog turd? Well if Pluto isn't a planet anymore, then dog turd surely doesn't matter, it just orbits the sun the same way as litter drooped by young chavs. Byelay officer?? - How about inter-planetary defendant???
