This is my local shop. (wasn't me BTW!)

What would you do if you walked in on this? I'm pretty inclined to have a go myself and knock this scrote into next year. I know he had a knife and what I advocate is not recommended, I'm just opening it up for discussion. In my experience if you go in hard at someone with a knife they are more than likely to bottle it, as there is a high percentage they wouldn't expect to have to use it. Especially a 14 year old on the Isle of Man. No offence to you young manx criminals, but you are not as hard you like to think you are.

Then again it could go horribly wrong. What triggers your decision must work on a lot of variables I guess - your mindset, the danger level, the size of the culprit (?), any weapons to hand, any helpful training, how stupid maybe!

I know the lady who runs the shop and hope she's okay. I so hope they get the bastard and throw the book at him.

"He is described as white, aged between 14 and 19, about 5ft 4ins tall and of slim build."

There is too much of this going on. Surely it's time to start cracking down much harder on these people e.g. if they are proved to have been underage and moved here from the UK or elsewhere with their family, then in this era of 'parental responsibility', time to start deporting families.

Its really not difficult to catch who is involved (in my opinion that is i am just thinking out loud.), this is a small comunity and the person involved will have had to case the place at some point very recently.

The 'gait' of a person refers to the style they walk/stand and present themselves, this is just as reliable as a police line up and if they were too look back over the footage from the shop i am sure the specialists could identify the suspect involved and have a picture in the local press in no time.

If this will stand up in court is another question but i doubt whoever did this is a master criminal and would fall very short if interigated in the right way.

People must either be getting very desperate or hopelessly stupid if they are prepared to try and carry out these kinds of robberies, pissing on your own door step seems to be a term that would best describe this.

( just my thoughts by the way i am not claiming to be sherlock holmes.)

The stupid thing is - if someone 'did' something to the criminal, e.g. threw a tin of soup at them knocking them out, the person doing the throwing would probably be punished in some way (More so if they did turn out to be 15).

Ermmm...where in that description did it say he wasn't Manx? Did I miss something, or am I being a paranoid stopover?

I did use the word 'if'. These kinds of robberies are quite common on the mainland. Whether he is Manx or not we should still come down hard on him, and if he is an immigrant throw him off the island, just as the UK have deported a load of immigrant criminals.

Its a similar description to the guy who held up the Chinky in Waverley Terrace.

You just think "chav"

There is a real chav problem on the IOM. I blame the fact that there are less people they can sell drugs to now so they are having to go back to what their parents did - breaking and entering and armed robbery.

I have a scar across my right knee which shows what happens when you kick a little shit with a knife in the credentials. Sure he went down but so did I. Basically he instinctively cut across what was headed his way. Laid me open to the bone and it could have been much worse. Next time I'll just let him be and remember everything I can so I can (safely) pick him out later. Even though it wasn't an issue I'm sure no amount of money is worth getting hurt for. Don't have a go, a disgusting little scrote with a knife simply isn't worth it...

Im sure it isnt hereditary !!

It was a fair point and I for one would beg to differ. The same a**holes that were nicking your videos 20 years ago are now babysitting as their kids go out and do the same. Nothing changes on this Island.

The building industry subsidised things for a while but the work is drying up, and they'll be kicking your back door in again soon.

Heredity may not be it ... but I imagine these people may have been raised in an environment that is avaricious and disrespectful of the law ... nature and nurture are totally interlinked and seem to have created a right little scrot in this case.
