Bush admits to CIA secret prisons

President Bush has acknowledged the existence of secret CIA prisons and said 14 key terrorist suspects have now been sent to Guantanamo Bay, Cuba.

The suspects, who include the alleged mastermind of the 9/11 attacks Khalid Sheikh Mohammed, have now been moved out of CIA custody and will face trial.

Mr Bush said the prisons were a vital tool in the war on terror and that intelligence gathered had saved lives.

He added that the CIA treated detainees humanely and did not use torture.

He said all suspects would be afforded protection under the Geneva Conventions.......

........

Mr Bush said the CIA had used an "alternative set of procedures", agreed with the justice department, once suspects had stopped talking.

But he said: "The US does not torture. I have not authorised it and I will not."

So what were these alternative procedures? Cuppa and Biscuits on an old air base in eastern europe? Scary...

...until they are moved to camp X-Ray which is special and outside the remit of the universe and it's laws.

Just like the US did not run secret flights with weapons to Israel, did not have secret CIA planes carrying prisoners around the world, doesn't have secret prisons outside of the US for terror suspects and exactly like the way Bill Clinton did not have sexual relations with that woman.

If nothing else has come out of our war against whatever people want to call it (but we all know what it is) it is that those taken in conflict who are out of uniform should be simply shot then and there.

The ONLY way to win a war, any war, is to be a bigger nastier and harder bastard than the other guy. This war can NOT be won by a 'hearts and minds' victory. That's an unachievable goal so to hell with being nice and soft and cuddly with all sorts of angst if a bit of hard interrogation or treatment surfaces, go for the jugular because sure as a fat dog farts THEY will as events have proven time and time again.

Pretend to be the better party and the very nature of war will result in your claims will get undermined in no time at all. Claim to be the hard bastard and PROVE it and then we'll start to get somewhere.

For those who would like to see the prosecution of a decent humanitarian war - go find one, it'll be the first, otherwise realise that war really IS hell and accept the stench of sulphur. It comes with the territory.

Or alternatively - respect and stick to the dozens of UN resolutions applied to you and avoid going to war in the first place!

You mean like Iraq? Because don't say israel as such is NOT the case. Israel is NOT in contravention of any binding UN resolutions.

That's called 'semantics', Rog.

I'm not getting sucked into another pointless debate with you on UN resolutions Rog. There is a list of them on the Israel (disporortionate use of force?) thread.

Rog is technically right.

"There are fundamental differences between the different kinds of resolutions in the UN. First, there are General Assembly resolutions, which are non-binding recommendations and reflect the political currents in the world body. Then there are Security Council resolutions, which have their own hierarchy. The UN resolutions concerning Israel and Iraq are based on different legal foundations"

However, IMHO, they are all morally binding, and the failure to address them is causing nothing but problems.
