I can understand why people think so, but on an island this size I don't see the relevance or importance of a keys candidate to feel like he/she has to live within my constituency.

I'd rather have the best person for the job - and if that means it is someone who lives in the constituency next to me or 10 miles away that's fine. After all when they are at home they probaby won't want to be disturbed most of that time, and these days phones are quite reliable and they can easily find a place to run their surgery. They can still be aware of all of the local issues by talking to people. Anyhow, this person is supposed to represent me in government, and the towns already have borough councillors who deal with the 'minor issues'.

I think if people put less emphasis on where candidates live, it might mean better candidates would be encouraged to stand from adjacent constituencies e.g. where they may not be able to compete with a long-standing and popular MHK in their own.
