7 Yet To Die On Our Roads

A recent report in the examiner stated that there are expected to be 12 more deaths on Manx roads this year (before Christmas) and therfore we should expect a futher 7 deaths before Christmas. The tone of this report was very pessimistic when surley it should be the opposite in that so far this year there have beed on average 0.55 deaths per month rather then the 1 per month as the past average would suggest..

Were, the historical average to hold true then we could expect another 3 deaths on our roads were the current year average to hold true we could expect another 1.67 deaths before Christmas

What's really scary is that they already know the names of the next seven - and have the stories ready to run!

Given that thre worst two weeks are behind us ie TT and Manx GP We should all be ok!!

You can't say that! You are suggesting that the reason our figures are high is down to the TT and MGP and that the 2006 average is now unlikely to change when no racing events are on. Are you insane. Have you not taken the DOT anti-truth serum?

There's a boat in the morning for you fella.

Just the usual... I.o.M Newspapers chief reporter trying to push the speed limit issue and keep things on the boil!

But is he the sort of guy who would run 7 people over just to prove a point?

I've seen him throwing cats into trees, sticking pans onto the heads of kids, winding up elderly people at the post office about their pensions and standing at the back of planning meetings throwing his voice saying 'down with it' just to get a story. It's despicable what these journos will do for a story. I thought they were supposed to write the news - not make it up themselves.

I had exactly the same thought - very negative attitude, but what do we expect in this nanny state? They're obviously pissed off the numbers aren't higher already!

Those silly little adverts/blots on the landscape they put on the side of roads saying "X number of accidents in the last zillion years". How low does the number have to be before the bloody sign is removed? For example, is it really a contribution to road safety to state there have been 3 accidents in the last 3 years or whatever? Another stupid idea from the UK, mindlessly and slavishly copied over here

I agree. In the UK if the average falls to 2 per year or below, the sign is removed.
