b4mbi
Anyone had any experience of their Manx Pronto contract phone being cloned ? premium rate numbers have been dialled on one of our company's contract phones and the phone holder assures me that they have not made the calls. I believe them 100%, and can thus only conclude the number has been cloned somehow... any constructive comments appreciated!
BigDave
In order to clone the SIM, a person would have to have physical access to the SIM and have the necessary equipment. I've not heard of a case where a GSM SIM has been cloned over the air. If the person did not dial the numbers can they be certain they had the phone with them when the calls were made? It could just be an MT billing cockup. (Which, TBH is more likely than a clone)
BigDave
Teenagers can also be to blame for mysterious calls. Does the user have kids? (This is even more likely than a billing cock up)
b4mbi
yeah, the teenager angle was considered and although possible, unlikely as phone is kept on person at all times. difficult to know whether or not person had phone on them at time of calls, because again it's just their word, which as I said I believe. billing cock up "could" explain it.... Ean
I believe them 100%, and can thus only conclude the number has been cloned somehow... It's your boss then Do you know what times the calls were made, is it possible that the teenager had the phone without the holder being aware? Were they late at night for example.... Were they late at night for example.... i am the boss! last one made was 10:14am 19/09/06 acc. to MT. which was during working hours..... anyway, preventative measures have now been put in place with full consent of party involved. just haggling over who should pay the >£500 bill for these spurious premium rate calls now.... ho hum... manxman8180
I don't believe the person who has the phone. Sorry, but I think they are a closet phone sex addict who simply can't get enough. The last call being during office hours is a red herring, intended to back up their story of 'Wasn't me boss, honest.' Fire them, take them to court for the charges incurred and slap yourself for being so gullible. Here endeth the lesson.
BigDave
Just a thought, if the SIM had indeed been cloned, surely MT would be able to tell if more than one handset had been connecting to the network? Out of interest, what services were called? porn? Competition line? Saddo single chat? Technical support line for their new PC? - or are you not curious like me? I'm sure you consider your employee to be trustworthy, but I'm a suspicious bastard and I've heard the "oh it must be the computer's fault then, because I wasn't looking at porn" excuse too many times. There is always the most likely explanation - it's them all along. It might be a case that they didn't know they were calling a premium service (soooo many people just don't know what the dialliang codes mean) or they just didn't think they'd get found out. Nitro
If it was in office hours then who else could it of been? Was it somebody else in the office?
b4mbi
Fire them, take them to court for the charges incurred and slap yourself for being so gullible. Here endeth the lesson. if only things were this simple to lay indescriminate blame without CONCLUSIVE evidence. until MT can categorically prove that the phone has not been cloned, i have to side with employee. of course it's possible I'm being lied to, but in my mind there is a more than fair probability that the phone has been cloned or there is a billing error or other as yet unidentified explanation. well all MT would say was they were "adult" lines, and I haven't asked for the numbers. of course i'd be interested to know and may ask them EXACTLY what services are on the other end of the numbers dialed when I next speak to them. It might be a case that they didn't know they were calling a premium service (soooo many people just don't know what the dialliang codes mean) or they just didn't think they'd get found out. yes I know. Impossible position really - no I didn't, yes you did kind of argument that has no resolution. Anyway measures in place to avoid in future, so thanks for all comments. Nitro
What about call durations? Was it lots of short calls?, like 5 minutes?, Could it be someone on the wind up, When this guy went for a tea/toilet break etc?
ans
Sounds like you need to make sure you get itemised billing for this particular number. I daresay if you asked you'd be able to get them restrospectively, particularly in light of the disputed calls.
Deejay Denzel
did this person ring back a missed call? you do get it sometimes, when you ring back it's £15 a minute or the likes.
ans
did this person ring back a missed call? you do get it sometimes, when you ring back it's £15 a minute or the likes. Rubbish. Complete urban myth. Maximum you will ever be charged is £1.50 pm at premium rate.
