Slim
Yes, I 'm not disagreeing, but thats no different from Uni letting us all use his IP here. I could post kiddy porn here at 2am and have it sit there till a mod wakes up, and thatsa crime on his ip. Could get the server pulled by an indiscriminate isp same as the media guardian example above, but wont result in a prosecution unless it was proved Unisol actually did it. So risky to let someone use your ip yes, but then so's this forum

ans
I assume the kit they supply is locked down and firewalled off so that people can't be too dumb with it. However, once someone finds a way into one... I'd love to see the whole world covered by free reliable and fast wifi, but I dont think a bunch of home users sharing their private connections is the way to go. Needs to be a Government initiative I suppose.
joeyconcrete
I'd love to see the whole world covered by free reliable and fast wifi, but I dont think a bunch of home users sharing their private connections is the way to go. Needs to be a Government initiative I suppose. I think if the commercial incentive is there (like Google/Earthlink and San Francisco) then it is easily achievable. Free basic connections to the masses, supported by portals and ads - while cheap access for everyone else. The government and local councils need involved for the lamp-posts, buildings, power etc. The other option is to use people's chimney stacks etc but that can be a bit iffy. Its becoming more popular though. It really needs the government to be interested in something like that though, which i guess they are not....
