Slim
If the prize pot is the total buyin, where's the profit for them? They wont be taking rake on a tournament so unless they're making a huge margin on coffee and water, why do it? 10% rake, read the top post, £22 entry. That's only £100 for the night of course, so my guess is the casino is usually empty on a sunday evening. This sunday it'll be full of people buying drinks and going on machines/ tables once they've been knocked out of the tourny.

Slim
Match report First 50 to register at 7pm got in, I arrived at around 6:30 with a plan to have a beer before wanding in, and was no 26 in the queue, ouch. I'd say at least 70 showed up, so 20 folks were turned away. This would need fixing for me to go regularly, either some kind of pre-registration or more tables to cope with demand. The tourny itself was very well run. Was up in the resteraunt bit, with poker tables laid out over the regular ones. The team kept up well with shifting the short stacked players and collapsing tables when required. Only downside to the organisation was the time it took to kick the event off. They'd left an hour between registration and the tourny starting, but with the event over subscribed, this really wasn't required and everyone was ready to go by 7:10. Standard of play was mixed, with a bunch of fairly green players, including myself , competing. Blinds went up every 25 mins, and the pace of play was just about right. Atmosphere was pretty tense with this clearly being many players first live tourny, but that relaxed as time went on. The dealers were friendly enough, but clearly not too experienced with poker. Was a couple of times we had to offer assistance, although this was no big deal and something that'll probably improve with time. I got knocked out pretty early, but my mate got onto the final table and left at midnight with his stake back plus a few quid. So pretty good fun, but pre-registration and an earlier start would be better.

Slim
Yeah, and for the folks who didn't get into the tourny. The single tables started quite late though, after 10pm anyway. Quite a long wait if you'd turned up at 7pm for the main tourny.
mannin
I called the Casino today to see if they are doing it again this Sunday; they are, same rules, same buy in. I suggested pre-registration......they didn;t seem taken with the idea Good luck to anyone who's planning on entering
