zippy Posted October 11, 2006 Share Posted October 11, 2006 Manx electro-acoustic band Moot have been selected to perform their original song in Manx Gaelic, 'Gyn Fockleyn', 'Without Words, live in the final of the Liet-Lavlut minority song competition held in Östersund, Sweden, on 14 October. The contest has attracted attention from the world's media - the competition will be transmitted on radio and television throughout Sweden, Norway, Finland and the Netherlands, and a programme is already in production for Italian National Television. Representing the Isle of Man, Moot are one of eleven finalists selected from over sixty entries representing twenty-five minority languages from Europe. There are two prizes in the competition - one decided by the jury and one by the public. And so Moot need your help! In addition to TV and radio broadcasts, the song competition is being transmitted live on the internet on Swedish Radio P2 so that people from all over Europe can vote for their favourite song. You can vote for Moot and the Isle of Man by accessing the Liet homepage: www.liet.nl, clicking on your preferred language and then on WEBVOTE. You will only be able to vote on the 14 October from 20.30 until 21.00 Swedish time, so that's between 21.30 and 22.00 Isle of Man time! You can also go directly to the webvoting server at http://vote.sparklit.com/web_poll.spark/1006136 It's only possible to vote once from every IP-address, but every click for Moot helps! Moot are receiving support from the Isle of Man Arts Council to help with their trip. The DTL has provided film footage of the Island which will be broadcast throughout Europe, so the competition is proving a way of promoting the Island on an international stage. Moot are in the final stages of preparing their second album, Holdfast, which should appear later in the month. It's an eclectic mix of songs in Manx and English, traditional and original.
