Lonan3
That's the heading on page 6 of the Manx Independent about the construction of Island Studios at Lezayre. According to the article: Failure to ensure conditions were met, progress was monitored, valuations were understood and off-island workers were legally employed... are catalogued in the 60-page accounts committee report. It goes on: Work on creating the steel fabric of the building went to off-island firm Allied Steel Frame Structures, which ended up costing £13,000 more than a quote from a local company. And: No work permits - a DTI responsibility - were issued to Allied Steel Frame Structures, Island Studios or any other company in the same group. The DTI made just two site visits to check permits, both when poor weather meant no one was at work - which the report says was 'pointless.' The whole affair seems to have been an almighty cock up - the kind that would normally, at the very least, require very senior heads to roll in the DTI. But who'd like to bet that they just manage to 'sweep' the whole thing under the carpet. PS. Sorry, there's no link to the story on the IoMToday site as yet.
