I worked for Sealink in the early 80's and there was concern over the future of the Lune Estuary then. They reckoned 20 years. It's now over 20 years... and the boast are running aground.....

Heysham has always needed a dredger for the final approach after the Lune deep. At the lowest of sping tides the captain should wait for the tide, he risked it that time and it didn't come off, but with only one boat running round the clock the pressure to sail is high.
