Pat Ayres
The Isle of Man government is recruiting an official to oversee covert surveillance on the island when a new law is passed. Source : http://news.bbc.co.uk/go/rss/-/1/hi/englan...ter/6132150.stm Just hang on a bloody minute there boy. Recruiting someone to do a job that is not legal yet? Are you having a laugh? Sounds like a perfect job for a recently 'retired' police officer. And who exactly oversees him/her? No wonder the island is a laughing stock at Westminster. John Wright
They have a similar post in UK under Human Rights legislation. It isn't something to laugh at. Its deadly serious. I suspect you are right. It will end up with a retired cop with entirely the wrong outlook. The outlook ought to be this type of thing is hardly ever justifiable, don't approve. Well at least a healthy scepticism rather than a supine roll over and tickle my tummy approach
matty
Sounds like a dud butt too me!!!! Obviously not that secret now is it - who let that one out of the bag - muppets!!!! AFAIK at present there are laws (data protection act I think) that require signage to be erected, to show that you may be under surveilance. Surely this would be in breach of human rights??? John Wright
Shame Crozza's separate thread got closed rather than merged. he would have beenideal for the job, which after all is reviewing, he caught up on it well, seems he's highly qualified
ian rush
It's a pretty intrusive new regime that's coming in over here as well, which I think is largely based on the RIPA (Regulation of Investigatory Powers Act 2000) in the UK. The Commissioner reports to Tynwald. Here's a liberal crititque/commentary on RIPA. http://www.magnacartaplus.org/bills/rip/index.htm
