Obviously Cringle does not have a grasp of what democracy is all about. In the 2 elections shown, FFinlo Corkill held all his votes, and gained a few extras. Corlett lost nearly 300 of his 1956 voters because the voters didnt want him in, Speaker or not. If you want to see democracy in action I recommend you to sit in the public gallery when Tynwald is in session and watch this man who has the title "President" overseaing the proceedings. It wont take you long to see who his favorites are, the ones who are allowed to get away with murder, and the ones who are slapped down for the slightest slip. Declan
Perhaps his point is that 406 fewer votes were cast in the second election, if only a quarter had not bothered voting for the speaker because they thought he was a shoo-in that cost him his seat. But, since it was a two person seat maybe many people voted for just one person, hence the drop in votes cast.
steven !
The message in the sound track doesn't seem to match up with the actual results, whichever way you look at it.
