the stinking enigma
We live in a global news world. I just don't understand why russia or Putin would invite willingly public scorn and backing new sanctions, knowing as surely they must, that sanctions are designed to make the population of the country they are imposed upon become so miserable and poverty stricken that eventually there is no choice but to rise up and overthrow their leaders. Think medieval siege, I would imagine most were ended by the starving inhabitants rising up. I just don't see putin as being that recklessly impulsive. Probably there isn't a comprehensive analogy to be drawn here - but uniting and winning under siege is part of the political and economic history of Russia. And even in the past decade sanctions strengthened Putin's support.
