triple7
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/business/6213682.stm Mr Brown says the doubling for Airport Departure Tax will produce revenue for public transport. This will mean for UK to UK flights an increase from £10 per return journey to £20. The burning question is will the IOM adopt this for IOM departures? Utah 01
I sincerely hope not - there can be no justification for what is just another of Robber Brown's stealth taxes.
Karellen
The burning question is will the IOM adopt this for IOM departures? Of course it will. It chose to adopt this tax when first introduced by the British Government. It will gladly pocket the increase.
Max Power
And spend it on what? Departmental defecits? or improvements to transport on the Island? Probably new road signs for the speed limit (We have 5yrs to get over it now!)

They should use such monies sensibly and invest it in public transport i.e. this would soon pay for a proper and decent bus station which might well encourage people to get the bus and help decongest parking in Douglas, as well as later buses (with drivers and conductors on decent overtime after 10pm and the odd copper travelling on them) to discourage drink driving etc. etc. Less parking congestion means businesses will also get more customers. Utah 01
You know and I know it won't be ring-fenced and spent on improving public transport. Subsidising the exhorbitant bus fares would be a starting point.
