Moghrey Mie
Residents on the Isle of Man are asked to give their views on changes to electoral areas. Source : http://news.bbc.co.uk/go/rss/-/1/hi/world/...man/6194603.stm Public Consultation? Announced on December 19th with closing date on December 31st. Not the ideal time to 'consult' i think. How do we find out background information about where the boundaries are and what changes are being proposed?
Lonan3
Indeed. Burying this kind of thing in a tiny time package, at a time of year when most people are so involved in preparations for Christmas smacks of a 'we don't really want to hear anything contentious... we want to say the public aren't interested therefore everything's fine just as it is' kind of project. Since it's something that will affect all of us when we come to vote next time around, I think it should be taken more seriously. More information should be given about existing boundaries (and, with the new census figures available, the populations within them), along with extra time for consideration so that we can all have our say if we want to. Mind you, that kind of thing would only happen in a democracy, so we really shouldn't expect it to happen here.
