feelslikeitshould Posted December 23, 2006 Share Posted December 23, 2006 Maybe the dog had managed to get in to a part of the stream (raging torrent) the coastguards could only access from 50 yards up/downstream, 2 men wearing all their rescue gear might find it easier and safer to swim (wade) than try and navigate a steep, slippery slope. Tempus Fugit Posted December 23, 2006 Share Posted December 23, 2006 They're heroes all these folk, even if it was 'only a dog', so many owners have perished trying to rescue 'one of their family', and it's good to have a fully equipped backup team to call on. Even if the dog wasn't in immediate danger and could have eventually doggy-paddled to safety on its own, it could well be regarded as real life training for the teams with real hazards to assess and plan their rescue, much better than contrived scenarios in a lot of cases. Mountain rescue teams in the Lake District often do rescues of stranded sheep from the crags as exercises, it could as easily be a climber or walker next time they get a 'shout' Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
