Former world boxing champion Naseem Hamed has been stripped of his MBE after being jailed over a high-speed crash in his sports car.

Hamed, 32, of Dore, Sheffield, served 16 weeks of a 15-month term last year for seriously injuring Anthony Burgin in the crash in Sheffield in May 2005.

An official notice said the Queen had directed that Hamed's name be erased from the Order of the British Empire.

The Cabinet Office, which administers the honours system, said on Monday that awards could be annulled if evidence of wrongdoing came to light.

Okay, fine! Just explain to me again how Baron Archer of Weston-super-Mare - jailed for four years after being convicted of perjury and perverting the course of justice in 2001 - retains his title.

Because a mechanism exists to remove honours such as CBEs, OBEs and MBEs if the person concerned brings the award into disrepute. No such mechanism exists in the case of hereditary or life peerages. Suggestions were made that such a mechanism be introduced following Archer's arrest and imprisonment, but no action was taken by the UK government.

Don't you be bringing your facts into this.

Is this the same G Archer that is involved in a telly show at present?

Who really takes him seriously anymore anyway, like the rest of the House of Lords?

Much less deserving is surely Sir M Thatcher, knighted for being the foul offspring of thatch and her fascist husband who died and left him the title, at least Archer hasn't been caught financing possible regime changes and military coups, yet.
